A landmark photography project

Prominent Manchester businesswoman Sandy Lindsay MBE was honoured by the Queen in 2015 for services to business and young people. Born in Birmingham in 1965, Sandy moved to Manchester in 1994, launching her own specialist communications consultancy Tangerine in 2002 – which now supports some of the world’s leading brands. In 2017, celebrating 15 years in business and fulfilling a launch promise, Sandy put Tangerine into Employee Ownership, creating 60+ partners in the business.
Sandy is passionate about creating quality career opportunities for young people. Her digital not-for-profit apprenticeship programme - The Juice Academy - has created hundreds of roles in leading businesses across the region. Most recently Sandy has been appointed to the board of the Rugby Football League, at a time when she was looking for exciting new challenges.

Doesn’t matter if you’re a politician, a business person, a student or anyone wanting to help – you’re accepted and welcomed in and your opinion counts. In 2023, Juice Academy was sold to 'Apprentify'. Lindsay's share of the initial sale price was donated to Forever Manchester to form the new 'Bright Futures Fund' worth more than £300,000 over three years. The fund will support charity, voluntary, community and social enterprise sector organisations running projects that will improve the career and life opportunities of people in Greater Manchester, with an emphasis on young people.

Before the shoot with Sandy, me and my tutor Harry had a look around the Corn Exchange to find possible locations for the photography. The light inside the building was challenging, so I set my camera in advance to allow me to concentrate on directing Sandy. We met and had a coffee together and got to know each other before starting the photography.
However, I was aware she was a busy lady so I tried to keep the shoot moving along and Sandy relaxed. This helped me capture the fun side of her personality. The whole experience was very positive and has given me an valuable insight into working under pressure as a commercial photographer.
